Jumbo Jets Will No Longer Land at This Famous Beach Runway
Maho Beach has long been a popular attraction on the island of St. Maarten, and not just for loungers looking to catch some rays and take a dip in the blue waters.
When aircraft come in to land at Princess Juliana Airport, they pass just overhead of beachgoers, making for a thrilling experience as well as an excellent photo opportunity. And one of the most exciting aircraft to see at the beach is Dutch carrier KLM's Boeing 747 jumbo jet.
That will change Friday, however, after KLM lands the 747 at SXM for the last time, according to The Boarding Area.
The runway is well-known to aviation aficionados around the world, and Travel + Leisure named it one of the world’s scariest.
KLM is shifting service to an Airbus 330 instead.
