If you were wondering what elements are necessary to taking the perfect picture, the answer is: dinosaurs. Associated Press photographer Jorge Saenz not only takes incredible news photos, but also makes sure to add a few extra snaps featuring toy dinosaurs to complete the shot.

He shares the prehistoric pics on his Instagram account and began the side project a year-and-a-half ago, after he realized he got more engagement than usual when he posted a picture of a toy green Brachiosaurus in his living room. Saenz has since snapped several toy dinosaurs, named Dino, Spiny, and Brachy, in countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, and Paraguay, and gained more than 14,000 followers along the way.

Each of the dinosaurs has different personalities, the photographer said, and the pictures have powerful messages behind them. "The topics I use for the photographs are born from everyday realities,” Saenz told Travel + Leisure. "War, religion, misuse of water, macho-ism—they are topics that come from reading the newspaper or simply straight observation. The dinosaurs in my series look and think of the world as if they were aliens, but also in a very rationalist and critical manner."

“My Dino Bag comes with me on every trip,” he said. “I plan to continue this series in 2016.”
