Graduate stuck on a delayed subway got the sweetest ceremony from commuting New Yorkers
Graduation day is the best day in a young student’s life.
But one thing that can turn the truly momentous day into a disappointment is traffic. Jerich Marco Alcantara of Hunter College was heading to his graduation in New York City when he found himself stuck on a severely delayed E train on Tuesday.
His fellow commuters, noticing Alcantara looking distraught in his cap and gown, decided that he was not going to miss his big day. So, they threw him a ceremony in the subway car.
A Facebook video posted by Nadiya Afzal shows Alcantara getting his special moment, complete with one other commuter blasting Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” as another man stands to shake his hand. In the video, Alcantara says, “If you want a copy of my diploma, turn on your AirDrop.”
Other people can be heard congratulating the new grad. Alcantara hugged and thanked his fellow commuters for their kindness.
Hunter College heard about Alcantara’s delay and sent out a tweet congratulating him in particular.
Congratulations to Alcantara, we hope he had the time of his life.
