The London Tube Is Now Open 24 Hours on the Weekend
London’s Night Tube, which will operate for 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays, starts running Friday on the Victoria and Central lines.
The service will be extended to the Northern, Jubilee, and Piccadilly lines later this fall, and will allow for those enjoying the area’s nightlife to continue taking the Tube late into the evening.
Trains will run every 10 minutes through Central London and will be priced at standard off-peak fares, with cards remaining active until 4:29 a.m. the next day.
There will be roughly 100 British transport police officers on board to ensure safe rides, as the London Underground estimates that there will be roughly 200,000 people using the service each weekend once it opens in all of the five lines.
The service will not only be beneficial to locals enjoying entertainment events and tourists, but also to late-night workers like nurses and security guards.
The service expansion could also lead to around 2,200 new jobs, and up to 77 million in British pounds for London’s economy by 2029, according to a report by London First and EY.
