There’s a new way to earn Starwood loyalty points—and you’re probably already doing it. Starting today, SPG members can link their account with the taxi service Uber, and earn one point for every dollar spent in one of its cabs. What’s more, guests that are staying at a Starwood property get bonus points on Uber rides taken within that destination—two points to the dollar for Preferred members, three for Gold and Platinum members, and a full four points to the dollar for Platinum members. But there is some fine print: it can take up to 24 hours for the accounts to link, and a qualifying stay is required (which means you need to spend one night in a Starwood bed before your Uber rides start counting towards your SPG balance).

This isn’t Uber’s first foray into branded partnerships—American Express cardholders already benefit from 2x points per dollar spent—but it does signal a greater shift in the hotel loyalty landscape. It’s one that SPG has repeatedly hinted toward, after partnerships with airlines—first Delta, then Emirates—proved that the company was interested in expanding loyalty perks into all facets of the travel experience.
