Nothing takes the sting out of a delayed flight like a choral version of Handel’s “Messiah.”

Weary travelers at the Cologne-Bonn airport were treated to a welcome holiday surprise when a Christmas carol–singing flash mob converged in a crowded arrival lounge. Organized by German broadcasting company WDR, the performance began when two opera singers posing as travelers (complete with wheeled luggage) sounded the first few notes of “Ding Dong Merrily on High.” They were soon joined by dozens of others, including singers dressed as flight attendants and pilots. The group went on to regale the transfixed and delighted crowd with “Little Drummer Boy” and sections of Handel’s “Messiah.” A pleasant airport experience during the busiest flying time of the year? Hallelujah indeed.
