Three months after actress Vanessa Hudgens carved a heart into a red rock in Sedona, authorities have ordered her to pay a $1,000 fine.
The 27-year-old posted a photo of the carving on Instagram (it has since been taken down), which included her name and her boyfriend Austin’s. It was later brought to the attention of the Coconino National Forest, who are in charge of protecting the famous red rocks. The U.S. Forest Service has strict rules against defacing or damaging natural features and comes with a maximum fine of $5,000 or up to six months in jail.
It was revealed by Forest Service officials in April that Hudgens “was cooperative in providing the specific location” of the carving. News of the act was then brought to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Flagstaff, which set a potential hearing date and contacted the High School Musical star.
