Meghan Markle Spent Her First Day in Australia Cuddling Babies and Koalas
The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, just announced her pregnancy, and on the first day of her international tour alongside her husband, Prince Harry, Meghan showed off her teeny, tiny (is it there?) baby bump in Australia.
On day one, Meghan met the Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison. Of the pregnancy announcement, Morrison called it “fantastic news” on Twitter, adding that he was “looking forward to sharing in the joy during your stay down under.”
Harry and Meghan then went to meet with Australia’s governor-general Peter Cosgrove, who gifted them their first baby present: a stuffed kangaroo and an adorable pair of baby Ugg boots.
Next up, the royal pair went over to the Taronga Zoo in Sydney to meet with another mother, Ruby, who is a mama koala that happened to give birth to koala joeys named Meghan and Harry. Surely, she had excellent parenting advice for the Royals.
After meeting with Ruby, Harry and Meghan were ushered to an afternoon reception at the Admiralty House in Sydney, where Meghan met with Australian singer Missy Higgins and her baby daughter, Luna. Higgins shared a few more parenting tips with Meghan and let the world in on a secret about the Duchess’ pregnancy on Instagram, revealing just how far along she really is.
“I said I felt sorry for her having to do all these meet-and-greets while 4 months pregnant!” Higgins said in a post. “What a trooper! Looking forward to telling Luna she slept through it all one day.”
It appeared Harry also almost let slip the gender of the baby while making a speech at the event. “We also genuinely couldn’t think of a better place to announce the, er, upcoming baby,” Harry said, nervously looking over to Meghan. He added, “whether it’s a boy or a girl.”
