Michael Kors’s Winter Travel Diary

In the wintertime, you have two options: you can go hot or you can go cold. I say, why not do both?

Snowy mountains, hot toddies, and cozy cashmere make for a classic holiday setting. I may not ski, but the natural beauty and festive spirit are more than enough to lure me to a glamorous ski locale like Aspen.

There’s also powerful appeal in seeking out sand and sun when winter strikes. For me, that means Palm Beach, one of those places in America that still has grand old-world charm. And I love that it’s one of the few places where a jeweled bikini is considered a basic.

Here are my picks for where to stay, eat, and shop this winter, including a great après-ski bar in Aspen and where to pick out your own bikini with bling in Palm Beach.

I love hotels that have a rich mix of glamorous history and modern luxury service—Hotel Jerome fits the bill. It’s classic Aspen at its finest.

Ajax Tavern, Aspen

I may not be one of the people who ski right in, but I love après-ski at Ajax, located at the base of the mountain. The views are incredible—as is the crowd.

Not only are Remède’s treatments great, but the lounge and Jacuzzi are divine on a cold day.

I love shops like Amen Wardy, where suddenly you need all these things you’ve never thought about before—Hermès china, distinctive napkin rings, they’ve got it all.

Brexi Brasserie, Aspen

I like to find a good burger everywhere I go. The one at Brexi, with a side of Parmesan frites, is my favorite in Aspen.

Casa Tua, Aspen

Just like its Miami sister, Casa Tua delivers on first-class service and great Italian food. And it’s right in the middle of downtown, so you can walk over from Ajax.

Total relaxation. That’s what you feel when you step into The Breakers. Time and time again, this place lives up to expectations. It’s classic Palm Beach—elegant, laid-back, and luxe.

House of Lavande, Palm Beach

Give yourself enough time to browse all the jewelry (the vintage costume, the new stuff) at House of Lavande. It’s the most indulgent way to spend an afternoon.

Seaman Schepps at Trianon, Palm Beach

I think Palm Beach is the only place in the world where a bathing suit and jewels is considered an everyday look. If you want a piece of fine jewelry, this is the place to go.

What to Pack: Greenwich Leather Satchel

Credit: Courtesy of Michael Kors

I like pieces that combine practicality, glamour, fashion, and versatility. In many ways, a crossbody is the perfect on-the-go piece. It does all of the above, keeps your hands free, and looks great doing it. Our Greenwich bag has a removable crossbody strap, chic top handles, and a chic contrast interior, making it the ultimate two-in-one travel bag.
