Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Got to Use These Fancy New Royal Titles During Their Trip to Scotland
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are still on a roll. In May 2018, the pair got married in one of the most lavish royal weddings ever. Then, in May 2019, they welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Archie, into the world. And, just a few short months ago, the royal duo finally moved into their dream home at Frogmore Cottage. Now, there’s one more new and exciting thing happening to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. They are getting new royal titles.
Meghan, Harry, and baby Archie are spending some of their summer vacation in Scotland with the Queen at her Balmoral estate. Over the weekend, the Queen reportedly helped Meghan celebrate her birthday with an intimate tea party. But, that wasn’t the only gift she gave Meghan. During the weekend, the Queen also bestowed the couple with their official Scottish titles: Earl and Countess of Dumbarton.
According to the Daily Mail, the Queen technically gave the couple the title on their wedding day. However, because this is their first visit to Scotland as an official royal couple, it marked their first time using the titles.
The town of Dumbarton, where the couple gets their new name, is a small community located a little more than 100 miles away from Balmoral.
Michael Gregory, the Lieutenant of Dunbartonshire, told the Daily Record that the couple likely won’t be visiting this time around, but if they do visit, he would be the one to welcome them.
“At the moment, all I can say is that they are not [visiting]. But that does not preclude a visit in the future,” he said. “That is all I can tell you.”
Beyond titles, the Queen also reportedly took the time to sit down with Meghan and discuss how things are going in her first few months as a royal.
“This might be a good opportunity to have, not an assessment of her, but a quiet chat away from the madding crowds as to how she thinks it is going,” royal expert Phil Dampier told the Daily Mail. “I think in quiet moments and quiet walks up by the river the Queen might have a few words of advice for her.”
