It’s official, there’s another royal wedding on the way.
On Monday, the Prince of Wales announced the engagement of Prince Harry, 33, to Meghan Markle, 36. On Twitter, Kensington Palace and Clarence House shared the news:
Megan and Harry, who began dating in 2016, first met in Toronto as Prince Harry was promoting the Invictus Games in Canada. According to Us Weekly, the couple became fast friends and soon developed romantic feelings toward one another.
Harry and Meghan have kept their relationship pretty quiet with low-key dates around the globe, including in Toronto and London. In August, the soon to be wed couple even took a trip to Africa where they spent time in Botswana to celebrate Meghan’s 36th birthday and then traveled to Zambia, where they reportedly took a trip to see Victoria Falls.
While the couple seems to be happy and have plenty in common with their shared interest in travel and true passion for philanthropy, it also helps that it appears the entire royal family supported the engagement. Meghan reportedly met Prince William back in 2016, where she gained the brotherly seal of approval, then met the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton in January of this year, spent time in the family’s summer home in Balmoral where she met Queen Elizabeth and later met up with her majesty once more for tea in her private residence this fall.
And though the couple has remained steadfastly private they knew the cameras, reporters and fans the world over would one day have to be let in. As Meghan told Vanity Fair in September, “We're a couple, we're in love. I'm sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time.”
The royal wedding will take place in the spring of next year.
