What’s the one thing that could make a train delay not seem so bad? Johnny Depp. A fire on a Eurostar train in France led to the evacuation of all 480 passengers, one of which was the star of Pirates of the Caribbean and Edward Scissorhands.

Passengers were stunned to see the actor, who opted for train travel to London over private plane, when they were forced to get off at the Calais-Frethun station because of an engine fire. On the platform, Depp posed and chatted with crew members while waiting for the next train from Brussels to arrive.

The impromptu meet-and-greet came after Depp mocked last month’s videotaped apology at a press conference on Sunday promoting his latest film, Alice Through the Looking Glass. “I’m going to do this everywhere I go. I would really like to apologize for not smuggling my dogs into England, because it would have been a bad thing to do,” he said.
