Drake and Rihanna Need to Take a 'Best Friends' Vacation—Here Are Our Suggestions
Drake and Rihanna have known each other for 11 years. And, not only that, their friendship may be one of the most followed by today's paparrazi-induced standards.
The duo not only creates sweet, sweet tunes together, they also congratulate each other's achievements on massive billboards (looking at you, Drake), and share on-stage kisses at the VMAs. And that's only the news from the past seven days. There have also been rumors around the pair's hush-hush, on-again/off-again romance that kicked off at New York City bowling alley/club, Lucky Strike, in 2009.
(The proof is in Drake's hit, “Fireworks”: “Who could have predicted Lucky Strike would have you stuck with me.”)
Romantic fling or not, it's obvious the two would make great vacation buddies. So, just in case the thought hasn't crossed either of their minds, we've got a few suggestions for the music-makers.
We've got to kick things off with Rihanna's hometown. You've got beaches, amazing Bajan food (cou-cou and flying fish, please!), and plenty of caves to explore. Add those to Rihanna's hometown favorites, and you've got the formula for an unforgettable trip.
Not only is Toronto the perfect complement to Barbados—trade in those beaches for the Hockey Hall of Fame and the city's many art galleries. The cherry on top of this trip would be a visit to the CN Tower, the very spot pictured on Drake's "Views" album.
If only for the opportunity for Drake to hold Ri-Ri's umbrella-ella-ella, we vote the buddies pay a trip to the capital of England. Don't miss: a silent disco at West London's Science Museum, people watching at Primrose Hill (although, we can see this situation turning around on the famed musicians real quick), and a quick photo-op—and a nod to London literature—at Platform 9¾ at King’s Cross Station. Because who wouldn't love to see Drake and Rihanna letting loose to the tune of some Harry Potter fun.
Roden Crater, Arizona
Given Drake's obvious affinity for James Turrell, might we suggest Crater Rock, Arizona. Located in the Painted Desert, this volcanic cinder has been turned into a art installation by Turrell, the same artists who inspired Drake's incredibly colorful video for "Hotline Bling." This particular artwork studies the many ways light is interpreted in an incredibly breathtaking natural environment. Oh, the Instagram opportunities.
When we imagine Drake and Rihanna chilling on vacation together, it's on an overwater bungalow above the South Pacific Ocean. The area is known for its ultra-luxe resorts—our picks: the St. Regis Bora Bora (one of our 2015 World's Best for beach hotels), Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora (this is where you can find those overwater bungalows...), or the Le Méridien Bora Bora.
Backpacking Through Europe
This may be a traditional post-college (or even post-high school for some early jet-setters) move, but we would literally pay a substantial amount of money to watch some GoPro footage from this adventure. We recommend planning this trip around the best islands in Europe: Crete, Greece; Hvar, Croatia; Madeira, Portugal; Ischia, Italy—you can't go wrong with any of these.
