Occupied Aircraft Lavatory Sign

It’s an unspoken rule of thumb that airplane bathrooms are the most unpleasant place to be on your flight.

But at the very least we expect our lavatories to be clean and sanitary.

Passenger Ben Perry wasn't so lucky on a Ryanair flight from Comiso Airport in Sicily to London Stansted: According to a video, when he visited his plane bathroom he found grime all over the sink, mirror, and walls.

The toilet itself looked positively unusable.

Perry posted a video of what he saw on Twitter, but don’t look unless you have a strong stomach.

“After a 4 hour delay I get on board to then find your toilets/baby changing facilities like this its absolutely disgusting! I mentioned this to a staff [member] after I come out of there and his reply was not our problem!! I see there customer care is not very important!!” Perry wrote on Twitter.

A Ryanair spokesperson told The Sun: “All Ryanair aircraft are thoroughly cleaned by professionals at the end of each day, in line with industry standards, and cabin crew carry out a cabin tidy and toilet check at the end of every flight.”

It’s unclear why this bathroom seems to have missed its cleanliness check.

The spokesperson also corrected Perry’s post, saying that the flight was only delayed by two hours, not four as Perry claimed on Twitter.

At the very least, this is your casual reminder to always wear shoes, and wash your hands, on flights.
