Travel restrictions in the COVID-19 era are constantly changing, but providing proof of a negative test result has become a fairly standard requirement for many countries. Now, as the vaccine rollout has begun around the world, countries are responding with a new set of guidelines for travelers.

Romania recently became one of a handful of nations changing its approach to address the newly vaccinated. Previously, anyone headed to Romania — whether a resident or visitor — was required to quarantine upon arrival, but the country's National Committee for Emergency Situations (CNSU) recently announced that it has lifted that requirement for vaccinated travelers.

In order to bypass the quarantine requirement, travelers must prove that they have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and that at least 10 days have passed since the second dose, Matador Network reports.

Proof must be shown through a "document issued by the health unit which administered it, from Romania or from abroad." Details have yet to be released as to which vaccines will be accepted or if any of the several options will be allowed.

Romania isn't the only country changing its travel restrictions for vaccinated visitors. The Seychelles recently reopened for all vaccinated travelers, although visitors will still have to present proof of a negative PCR test in addition to their vaccination paperwork.

As more countries reassess their restrictions for vaccinated travelers, it seems like we might be a step closer toward vaccine passports in a post-COVID world. The idea of requiring vaccines for visitors, however, is nothing new. Several countries in Africa, for example, require proof that travelers have received a vaccine for yellow fever.
