Rihanna Skipped the VMAs to Go to Cuba and She's Definitely Not Regretting It
The "Rude Boy" singer showed off her dance moves on Instagram this week while playing Childish Gambino's new song, "Summertime Magic."
In the brief clip, Rihanna looked like she jumped right out of a postcard from Havana, rocking a flowing gold maxi dress, white sneakers, a wide-brimmed hat, and an even wider smile in the city's Plaza de la Catedral.
According to W Magazine, both Rihanna and Childish Gambino, whose real name is Donald Glover, are in Cuba to film a mysterious project titled "Guava Island" that's being directed by Hiro Murai.
As W speculated, the project could be a music video for a dream collaboration between the two artists, or it could be a film, or it could be an art project, or it could be something we haven’t even thought of. Though, as IndieWire’s Chris O’Falt pointed out, the project’s crew has been on the ground working for weeks, while the stars of the production have been there for at least a few days. “It’s hard to imagine a scenario in which the two would need that much time to prepare a single music video,” he wrote. Whatever it is it’s bound to be awesome because these two — and the city of Havana — are involved.
