Meghan Markle will soon become a member of the British royal family, but according to her closest friends, that isn’t the coolest thing about her.

“It’s natural for people to be like, ‘Oh that’s Prince Harry’s girlfriend,’ but she’s a lot more as well,” Priyanka Chopra, one of Markle’s best friends, told Harper's Bazaar Arabia in a recent interview.

Chopra initially vented this same frustration last fall, when Vanity Fair put out an interview with Markle that heavily focused on her relationship with the Prince.

“I mean, she's on the cover of Vanity Fair. It would have been nice to write about her not just her boyfriend,” Chopra said of the cover in September. “She's an actor, she's an activist, she's a philanthropist. I mean, she does so much more.”

However, as Chopra also noted, just because Markle is an independent woman doesn’t mean she won’t be supremely successful in her role as a royal.

“I don’t think anybody else would be able to do it the way she will. She’s just right for it,” Chopra said. “She’s an icon, truly, that girls can look up to, that women can look up to.” Furthermore, Chopra believes that Markle will be an excellent influence on not only the royal family, but the world over, as her work for women’s rights can now reach an even bigger audience.

“Meghan being a part of the royal family is a big step in the direction of so many things; of women, of feminism, of diversity, of race, of the monarchy versus everyone else. It’s a beautiful step in the right direction,” she noted.

Chopra also teased us all about if she will or will not be a member of Markle’s bridal party by saying, “if you see me there, you’ll know.”
