A man on a Spirit Airlines flight from Detroit to Orlando had a close call when he stopped breathing moments before the plane was about to take off.

Luckily, other passengers quickly sprang into action to save his life.

A nurse who was also on the flight, Sue Kneehouse, saw the man collapse and confirmed he was not breathing and that he had no pulse, according to Local 4, in Detroit. With the assistance of other passengers and crew, Kneehouse worked quickly, using the on-board defibrillator to revive him.

“Somebody just said, ‘Call 911,’ and you never expect to hear that on the plane,“ Kneehouse told Local 4. Once the man was revived, witnesses say the whole plane cheered.

The man was safely taken off the plane by paramedics and transported to Metro Detroit Hospital, where he is still recovering, according to local reports.

The flight continued to Orlando after a delay.
