The Northeast May See Its First Snowfall of the Year This Weekend
Attention people living and traveling in the Northeast: Winter is Coming.
All "Game of Thrones"puns aside, colder, potentially dangerous weather really is heading to the region. According to AccuWeather, a wave of cold air is heading to the midwestern and northeastern United States. Along with the drop in temperature, the front could also bring in damaging winds, rain and snow showers over the weekend.
"Frosty air is also likely to dip into the southern Appalachians and Piedmont areas," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Frank Strait, shared in a post. AccuWeather Meteorologist Ryan Adamson added, “After a brief moderation in temperatures on Friday, a reinforcing shot of colder air will be coming into the Northeast this weekend.”
This means that temperatures over the weekend will be the coldest the region has seen this year.
“This next cold front means business,” AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Elliot Abrams noted.
The high daily temperatures will be a good 10 to 15 degrees colder than normal, AccuWeather reported. High's will max out in 40s across the Great Lakes and interior Northeast and 50s near the coast. Thanks to potentially gusty winds, temperatures may feel at least 10 degrees colder.
The North won’t be alone in feeling the chill for long. According to The Weather Channel, temperatures in Tennessee, North Georgia and northern South Carolina will hit the low 30s by Monday. Most of the South will also see temperatures drop somewhere in the 40s and 50s. These lower than average temperatures, The Weather Channel reported, will likely last through the end of October.
If you want to escape the cold for a few days, there are still two places in the U.S. experiencing warmer temperatures: Florida and Southern California. This weekend, Los Angeles has a 70 percent chance of experiencing warmer than average temperatures, according to The Weather Channel. Southern Florida has at least a 50 percent chance of warmer temperatures.
Of course, if you really want to get away, you should probably head to one of the 15 best tropical islands instead.
