New construction, renovated properties, all-inclusive resorts, an English manor house, luxury tents, and tiny pod rooms are among our long list of new hotel openings for 2018.

Décor, whether decidedly modern or historic restoration, is receiving much attention, as are spectacular views and rooftop areas. Uninspired hotel restaurants are becoming a thing of the past as hotels work with recognized chefs to create unique dining experiences and inviting cocktail lounges.

A truly unique lodging experience, 50 antique houses have been disassembled and meticulously restored to create 26 ancient dwellings, seamlessly integrating contemporary comfort into the 400-year-old buildings. Many of the dwellings now include private pools and courtyards, and guests can experience holistic wellness facilities and the opportunity to explore China’s heritage of arts, culture, and philosophy. This new hotel will offer 665 rooms on 28 floors, each room about 115 square feet of efficient space. Expanding on the micro-hotel concept, the hotel will also offer 45 Pod Pads, living suites from 600-800 square feet for extended stays. Located near lively Hell’s Kitchen, guests can enjoy the area’s trendy bars, restaurants, and nightlife as well as Times Square’s shows, shops, and activities.

Freehand New York

The 394-room hotel will be housed in the former George Washington Hotel in Gramercy Park, once home to many storied writers, musicians, and creatives. Its restaurant, Simon & The Whale, and its cocktail lounge, The George Washington Bar, will be led by acclaimed West Village restaurateur Gabriel Stulman. A rooftop restaurant is slated to open in spring.

After extensive renovations, the 90-year-old hotel will celebrate its restoration back to its original 1920s Spanish Colonial splendor with 268 rooms, including 63 suites. After a $46-million renovation and conversion, the Hapuna Beach Hotel will debut as The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort. A luxurious destination for well-being and relaxation, the resort will offer a new adults-only pool, an artfully designed lobby, and 232 guestrooms and 17 suites. New dining concepts include Meridia, a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, the casual Naupaka Beach Grill, and Ikena Landing, an open-air breakfast venue.

MGM Resorts International and Sydell Group have teamed up to reimagine the Vegas Strip’s Monte Carlo Resort and Casino into two distinct hotel experiences — a new 2,700-room luxury resort named Park MGM followed by a version of Sydell’s NoMad Hotel featuring 292 rooms and suites. Each property will host unique food and beverage experiences including the NoMad Restaurant by Daniel Humm and Will Guidara along with the Italian marketplace Eataly.
