This Beach in the Netherlands Is Having a Year-long Party
Ain’t no party like a year-long beach party cause a year-long beach party don't stop ... until next year.
The seaside resort town of Scheveningen, in the Netherlands, is celebrating its 200th birthday this year. And to mark the occasion, they're throwing a beach party that will last for the entirety of 2018.
To kick off its second centennial, about 10,000 people stripped down for the annual New Year's Dive by swimming in the North Sea, which averages about 43 degrees Fahrenheit during January.
According to Lonely Planet, there are a number of other events that celebrate the historic. beachy resort, including Rings Beside the Sea, which is a huge sand art project measuring 492 x 984 feet, the Sand Sculpting World Championships in June, the International Fireworks Festival in August and the world’s biggest motocross beach race in November.
Plus if you’re into boat races, you can also see the finish line of the nine-month long Volvo Ocean Race in Scheveningen coming in late June.
And there are tons of music festivals, opera performances and art exhibitions scattered throughout the year, so any time is a great time to visit.
