When Meghan Markle announced her engagement to Prince Harry, she made the claim that she “didn’t know much” about the royal family, or her future husband. But evidence keeps coming out to the contrary.

For one thing, there’s this photo of a young Meghan sitting outside of Buckingham Palace like any other royal-obsessed tourist in London. And now, there’s this newly unearthed home video of an even younger Meghan pretending to be, of all people, the Queen of England.

In the 11-minute video, shot on Jan. 29, 1990, at the ninth birthday party of Meghan’s childhood friend, Ninaki Priddy, the future royal can be heard making demands like “make me 900,000 cookies” and “sew me a nice dress.” As she told her other 8-year-old subjects, the cookies and the dress are for an important meeting she has with "people from Florida and Canada, Mississippi, Missouri."

During their impromptu play, Meghan then called a “10-minute break,” but not before adding, “Go do the grocery shopping, I didn't have time to do it." Moments later she added, “Ten minute break is up. Faster sewing! Faster cooking!”

According to Priddy, who spoke to the Daily Mail about the video, “The show was called 'Your Royal Highness' and the star was Meg. It’s very funny to see this now and given what is going on with her life it’s quite eye-opening. She was always the center of attention, always the ringleader – it was my birthday but she took the starring role!”

Luckily for commoners in Britain it appears Meghan has softened her royal style since her days of playing pretend in her friends' backyards. As she explained in her first public appearance alongside Harry, Prince William, and Kate Middleton, Meghan is hoping to hit the ground running as a royal and use her power for good.

As Harry noted at the event, “I am personally incredibly proud and excited that my soon-to-be wife, who is equally passionate about seeing positive change in the world, will soon be joining us with this work.” But maybe have a few dozen cookies ready for her at all times, just in case.
