People Are Really Excited That McDonald's Shamrock Shakes Are Back
The St. Patrick's Day-themed milkshakes have returned.
McDonald’s beloved St. Patrick’s Day classic — the Shamrock Shake — is back.
The seasonal favorite returns to stores throughout the U.S., Canada, and Ireland Tuesday ahead of the holiday on March 17.
First introduced by McDonald’s in 1970, the Shamrock Shake has undergone several recipe changes since landing at its current flavor — mint, with hints of vanilla and lime, topped off with whipped cream and green dye.
Like other seasonal menu items like the McRib, the Shamrock Shake has a built-in fanbase, and naturally they’re excited by the milkshake’s return.
One Twitter user wrote that it’s the “best time of the year when shamrock shakes are here.”
But other social media users wrote off the perennial item, describing the milkshakes as overrated.
“[U]npopular opinion: shamrock shakes aren’t as good as everyone hypes them up to be,” one user wrote on Twitter.
Regardless of the divisive opinions, the return of Shamrock Shakes hint at the near-emergence of spring.
The milkshakes go for $2.19 to $2.99 depending on size and are available for a limited time only.
McDonald’s has not yet said exactly how long they will keep shamrock shakes on the menu.
