Your summer theme park vacation just got a lot more magical.

Universal Orlando Resort’s long-anticipated new Harry Potter roller coaster will officially open at Universal’s Islands of Adventure on June 13, 2019.

Even its mystical name — Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure — proves this will be a high-stakes experience, confirming rumors that guests will ride on either a motorcycle or a sidecar of these one-of-a-kind vehicles when the ride debuts four months from now.

What can guests hitting the Orlando theme parks expect from the new Harry Potter ride? A full-fledged coaster that’s still approachable for all families, as well as interactions with some characters not seen before within The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. So far it has only been teased that pixies — those devilish blue jokesters introduced to the Defense of the Dark Arts class in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” — are part of the attraction, but given the just-announced name of the ride, plenty other rare beings are likely to take part, possibly including Hagrid, the gentle giant himself.

The only character likely not to be there? Buckbeak, Hagrid's beloved Hippogriff. (An audio-animatronic version of the oversized bird is featured in the Flight of The Hippogriff coaster, also in the park’s Hogsmeade section.)

When it opens this June, this all-new coaster, which replaces the former Dragon Challenge ride, will become one of three major Harry Potter attractions at Universal Orlando Resort. Harry Potter and The Forbidden Journey, which takes guests through Hogwarts Castle and face-to-face with Dementors on a broom-flying adventure, continues to thrill crowds at Universal’s Islands of Adventure’s Hogsmeade portion of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which spans both parks. Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, which takes riders deep within the fabled bank’s tunnels, anchors the Diagon Alley section of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Florida.

Park-to-Park tickets are required to visit both ends of the park, as well as to board the stunning replica of the Hogwarts Express. For more details on planning a vacation to Universal Orlando Resort to experience the new ride this summer, consult our helpful trip planning guides.
