Those who traveled the world in search of Carmen Sandiego in the 1980s and ‘90s will have another chance to catch the iconic super thief. The red coat and fedora clad burglar will once again lure super sleuths around the Earth – Google Earth, to be exact – to solve crimes in international locales.

As an homage to the 1985’s original “Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?” computer game, Google Earth and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt have collaborated on the release of “The Crown Jewels Caper,” the first in a new series of Carmen Sandiego games that take place in Google Earth. The game leads players around the globe to solve cases, track suspects, and ultimately, find Carmen Sandiego. Along the way, players learn about the geography and history of the places they visit.

The reboot mixes the old with the new, combining Google Earth’s tech with the green monochrome look of the original IBM computer screens Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? was first played on. Facts about each locale pop up as the player moves from destination to destination.

The original “Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?” was the first of 22 video games that led to three television shows and six Emmy wins. In January, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt released a new animated Carmen Sandiego series on Netflix featuring the voice of Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) as Carmen.

Gumshoes both new and old should prepare for their next mission: find Carmen Sandiego, once again, this time as she travels Google Earth.
