A dog at Kanjurmarg station in Mumbai, India is causing a lot of speculation among locals — and breaking some hearts in the process.

The female dog, who is apparently a mother of four puppies, appears at the train station every night around 11 p.m. and chases after trains that arrive shortly after. She always stops to peer into certain cars, seemingly looking for someone.

Unfortunately, no one the dog is looking for ever seems to come out.

Commuter Sameer Thorat noticed the dog one night while returning from work and took a video of her. “The way it waits for the late-night trains and tries to peek inside the ladies coach, it seems it is searching for a particular person who either fed it regularly or left it behind,” he told the Mumbai Mirror.

Commuters have offered the dog (and her puppies) food as well as some passing moments of affection, but she appears to continue searching for that special someone. Some locals are trying to get her puppies adopted, according to Metro.

People can’t seem to figure out where the dog came from or why she waits. Some speculate that she is abandoned or lost, or perhaps just looking for someone who once fed her regularly.

It’s possible that the dog is looking for the person who used to toss her treats on the regular, but whatever her situation is, it simply tears at your heartstrings to see a lonely, hungry pooch.
