The website offering information on immigrating to Canada crashed on Tuesday evening, as the results of the United States presidential election came in showing an unexpected triumph for Donald Trump.

Polls had projected Clinton to win the election.

The idea for Americans to leave the country, if the election didn't go their way, has been percolating over the past year.

Canada seems the most popular choice, however Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Europe have also popped in searches.

On Google, searches for “how to move to Canada” also spiked on Tuesday night, according to Google Trends. Searches peaked at around midnight.

As of Wednesday morning, Canada's immigration website was loading, albeit slowly.
