The tide will be high.
Legendary band Blondie announced Monday they're headed to Havana, Cuba, for a four-day “historic cultural exchange” that fans can join for an all-out Cuban musical experience — and to meet the band.
“Blondie in Havana” is set for March 14–18, 2019, and will include two headline concerts, a meet-and-greet and photo opportunity with the band, more performances by Cuban artists Alain Perez, David Torrens, and Sintesis, visits to museums and cultural institutions. U.S. citizens are limited in what they can do in Cuba, so this trip is clearly meant to fulfill the requirements for a cultural exchange — it's more than a vacation.
“We’ve never been to Cuba,” Blondie founding member Chris Stein said in a statement. “We’ve been talking about it for ages and now it’s finally happening.”
While the trip, hosted by Dreamcatcher Events, is clearly meant to appeal to Blondie fans, it will also appeal to any music lovers or history afficionados.
“Havana is such an incredible scene, such an incredible city,” said Stein. “I’ve always been fascinated by their music and their wildly creative culture. It’s going to be an amazing trip and we’re all really looking forward to it.”
Prices for the event range from $2,699 for one person in a shared room for three nights, to $5,600 for a couple with their own room for four nights. A single room for an individual for all four nights is $3,999. Guests will stay at the Meliá Havana Hotel, and the price includes seats at both Blondie concerts at Teatro Mella, nightly entertainment from Cuban artists,
Ground transportation is included, but flights to and from Cuba and a visa are not. (Travelers can arrange their visa through their airline.) If you're considering the trip, airfares to Havana for around those dates are starting at about $400 round-trip from New York City, and about $220 round-trip from Fort Lauderdale. (JetBlue, American and United offer plenty of flights.)
Registration opens Friday, September 28 at 9 a.m. ET; there is a 5% discount for registering before October 15.
