This Overwater Bungalow in Belize Is the Coworking Space of Our Dreams
If you have to work on vacation, let it be like this.
Do you have trouble unplugging from work while you're on vacation? Now you don't have to — and you don't need to feel guilty about it.
This May, the world's first overwater bungalow coworking space is coming to Tobacco Caye, a tropical island 10 miles off the coast of Belize.
Belizesure — a combination of business and leisure (“bleisure”), and Belize — provides the ideal work environment for the remote employee: an open-concept layout, standing desks, a wellness center, solar-powered charging station, a VIP boardroom, and Wi-Fi. It's really no different from your average coworking space, except it's in paradise.
The coworking space serves to help you achieve the perfect work-life balance. You could catch up on e-mails in the middle of your vacation in-between snorkeling and bumming on the beach — or if you absolutely cannot fathom clocking in during your PTO, you could extend your trip and work remotely under the palm trees for a day or two. Heading to the office truly doesn't get any better than this.
“Not only is Belize a curious place — it also is a productive place,” said Karen Bevans, director of tourism at the Belize Tourism Board (BTB). “The Belizean tourism industry is fully committed to accommodating the needs of our guests, whether they're seeking a rainforest adventure, world-class scuba diving along the Belize Barrier Reef or a relaxing overwater bungalow to finish laying out the last slides of a presentation... if you must.”
As part of its big launch, the BTB is giving three lucky individuals a chance to work at the tropical coworking space. Should you win, you and your guest would get an all-expenses paid trip to Tobacco Caye Paradise for travel between May 18 and May 23, 2019.
If you desperately need to get away from your desk (or let's face it, your coworkers), send an e-mail to email@example.com and explain why you deserve a break from the office. The BTB will be accepting applications until April 9, 2019.
Even if you don't win, you can still clock into work at the overwater bungalow. It's free to use, and you don't need to reserve a spot. Since it can comfortably hold up to eight people, though, you might want to come early to beat the ambitious worker bees.
While Belizesure is currently only scheduled to be open the week of May 18, the BTB will consider keeping the doors open for longer based on its popularity. So go ahead and check it out. Who knows, maybe this trip will be just the thing you need to start building your case for working remotely.
