Osteria Pane e Salute
Inside a classic white clapboard New England house with a wide, covered porch, the tiny, bright green, second-floor dining room of Pane e Salute seats around 20 snuggly at long, wooden farm tables or at poured concrete bar. The Italian-style menu (with antipasti, primi, secondi, and pizze) has seasonal dishes prepared with local ingredients, such as Vermont sheep's cheese, pork chops, and ham. Past dishes have included local chicken leg roasted with dried apricots, margherita pizza, and pasta with a walnut and parsley pesto. The owners spend part of each year in Italy and avidly recommend wine pairings with the meal.
