Rialto Market
Whether or not you're in a position to cook with what's on offer at the legendary Rialto market (at the foot of the bridge on the San Polo side of the Grand Canal), it's worth a visit for the photo opportunities alone. You'll come face-to-face with hundreds of species of fish from Venice's lagoon at the fish market, which runs mornings until around midday (check out the historic plaques banning fish below certain lengths being sold—they've been all about sustainability for centuries here), while the colorful fruit and vegetables section is a great place to pick up some snacks.
