Saigon Sandwich
A Tenderloin neighborhood hole in the wall with dirt-cheap prices, Saigon Sandwich is a popular San Francisco spot for made-to-order bahn mi — the traditional Vietnamese sub sandwich. Consisting of nothing more than French bread (not quite a baguette), fresh cilantro, sour carrot, and roast pork or pate; it’s simple, flavorful, and exceptionally inexpensive. Employees from the nearby government offices line up at lunch time, but the queue moves quickly, in part because it’s cash only.
