White Rabbit Gallery
Showcasing cutting-edge Chinese contemporary art from 2000 onwards, the fantastic four-floor White Rabbit Gallery houses the private collection of Judith Neilson. The sleek, white-walled building was once a Rolls-Royce garage and knitting factory, but now rotates temporary exhibitions of bold video art, installations, painting, photography, and sculpture, usually with provocative themes. The gallery shop offers gifts with an art, design, or China bent, from notebooks to aprons and figurines. The adjoining tearoom, hung with dreamy bird cages, dishes up delicious Chinese tea, dumplings, and scones. It's located in hip Chippendale, which is home to a swathe of independent art galleries and interesting modern architecture, so be sure to wander the area.
