Ovolo 1888 Darling Harbour
Despite its historic wool warehouse location, the Ovolo 1888 Darling Harbour is nothing if not contemporary. The 90 rooms and suites sport exposed brick and pegboard walls, and minimalist industrial accents. The entry-level Shoebox boudoirs are self-confessedly small, with a budget-boutique price tag to match. Junior Suites offer a generous floor plan and sitting area; you can also splurge for the two top-tier suites, the split-level Shaken and sun-drenched Stirred, which sport a cocktail bar and rooftop patio, respectively. Pop Art murals in primary red, yellow, and blue hues by local artist Jasper Knight give all rooms a necessary pop. The contemporary, neutral-hued Lo Lounge dishes up continental breakfast, day-long snacks and shared plates, with a convivial happy hour from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. serving free flowing wine, beers, spirits, and canapés. Owned by Hong Kong's Ovolo group, this stay is all about bragging rights, but the Pyrmont setting—handy for checking out Sydney Fish Market, Chinatown, Darling Harbour, and up-and-coming Chippendale—will appeal, too.
