Savannah History Museum
Neighboring the Georgia State Railroad Museum and the Visitor’s Center, the History Museum houses around 10,000 artifacts dating back to the city’s founding in 1733. There’s a strong military bent to many of the exhibits, with sections devoted to the Revolutionary War and Desert Storm. The Civil War and Industrial Revolution are also wonderfully illustrated. There’s a pop-culture theme as well, with world-famous items such as the bench from the film Forrest Gump as well as real-world memorabilia like awards from the estate of local songwriting legend Johnny Mercer. All in all, it’s a rounded, captivating look at the city.
