While enoteche (wine bars) are the local haunt and rooftops are ace for the views, Rome's cocktail scene of speakeasies, chic bars, and everything in between has quickly established itself as more than an alternative. You’ll find plenty of proper cocktails at the Jerry Thomas Project and the Deer Club inside D.O.M. hotel. When in Rome, do as the Romans do and enjoy an aperitivo—Aperol Spritz and Fragolino are two of the classics—at an al fresco spot like Ciampini, which is great for people-watching. Some bars, like Freni e Frizioni in Trastevere, set out an elaborate spread of small bites for aperitivo, which is included in the price of a drink. Of course, wine is always a great choice at any time of day or night, especially at standbys like the Antica Enoteca near the Spanish Steps, where the bartenders can guide you through the extensive wine list.
