Sugarloaf Mountain, or Pão de Açúcar, is a must-visit for anyone exploring Rio. Like most view-oriented attractions, it's best taken in on a cloudless day, in early morning to avoid crowds. But even throngs of tourists do little to diminish the awe-inspiring views of Rio, from Christ the Redeemer to Copacabana Beach. Take a glass-walled cable car to the top (adventurous types, climbing tours are available as well), and then soak up the panorama from one of the numerous benches or cafes—or standout restaurant Cota 200. Shops also abound, but despite all the commerce, the mountains remain pristine. Take a hike on one of the trails and watch out for little monkeys.
