Escadaria Selarón
Part of Rio's charm lies in the fact that its landmark treasures range from the classic (Christ the Redeemer) to the quirky—best exemplified by this seemingly-inconsequential stairway. Escadaria Selarón, as it's known, is situated between the Santa Teresa and Lapa neighborhoods, and is made up of 250 steps, all of which are adorned with over thousands of brightly-colored tiles from countries all over the world.
