Located on the site of the first European settlement on New South Wales’ coast, this former convict village now supports the largest and only five-star wine producer in the region, with 126 trophies and more than 1,400 awards to its name. Styles vary somewhat each year but generally include Semillon, Verdelho, Chardonnay, Savagnin, Chambourcin, and Tannat. Historic photography, a documentary video, and tasting of local cheeses are part of the tour, while the Alexanders restaurant serves proper meals. Saturday evenings, a three-course dinner takes place in the restored banquet hall. Overnight accommodations are available in the renovated, original cottages.
