Located in Honolulu’s Chinatown, this marketplace features a wide range of Asian and Hawaiian foods and merchandise, including meat, seafood, produce, tea, clothing, trinkets, and kukui nut necklaces. The market is accessible by car or bus, and the entrance is marked by a brick arch flanked by Chinese guardian lions, beneath a green-tile roof. The two-story marketplace has an open brick courtyard with shops around it. The food court’s vendors sell local Hawaiian foods, the cuisine of various Asian and Pacific countries, and even Italian. Maunakea Marketplace is also home to the Hawaiian Chinese Multicultural Museum and Archives.
