Flo's Clam Shack
Of all the underwater delights, few would rank clams at the top of their list. But not Rhode Islanders—they can’t get enough of them. And Flo’s Clam Shack, at the end of Memorial Boulevard and right across from First Beach, probably has something to do with that obsession. The place has been a local treasure since 1936, when a shrewd businessman decided the mollusks were best enjoyed battered, fried, and steaming hot. Show up for a sunset meal on the upstairs deck (be sure to sample the stuffed quahog and fried oysters, too), and see if you don’t agree.
