Forty 1° North
Constructed with the modern yacht-owning crowd in mind, this chic boutique hotel opened in 2010 on Narragansett Bay and has its own marina with parking for supersized conveyances. But even if you don't know bow from stern, the bobbing masts make for great views from the rooms, as well as a picturesque backdrop at the waterfront restaurant. (That said, the views of downtown Newport can be just as postcard-worthy.) The 28 rooms, suites, and lofts in the white-shingled hotel are contemporary and streamlined; stand-alone cottages feel more classic New England, with exposed-wood-beam ceilings and beadboard, and each comes with a full kitchen and living room.
