If you're looking to catch some local comedy talent before they hit it big, Upright Citizens Brigade—casually known as UCB—is the place to be. With locations in both Chelsea and the East Village, each space offers weekly shows and other amatuer events, and is most well known for launching the careers of many celebrities: Amy Poehler, Ed Helms, Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson (of Broad City fame), Nick Kroll, Jack McBrayer, Aubrey Plaza, and Aziz Ansari. Don't miss the $5 Cage Match shows where two improv teams are plotted against one another on stage. Those looking to learn the ropes can opt to enroll in an improv class and ultimately perform with other students.
