When she couldn't find sheets to fit the sleek steel beds her husband, artist Julian Schnabel, designed, Olatz Schnabel went back to her design-school roots and created her own. That project eventually led to this elegant old-world shop, where the marble checkerboard floors and brocade armchairs would be at home in an Italian palazzo. Shelves are filled with brightly colored and exquisitely embroidered sheets in fine linen or Egyptian cotton percale; lace and batiste cotton crib sets; and sumptuous silk pajamas. The towels, tablecloths, baby clothes, and cashmere blankets all seem to promise that if you buy them, your home will one day look as grand and film noir-y as the evocative shop itself. Everything sold is exclusive to the store, making the linens just a little more accessible than they were when Olatz took orders only for her private clients.
