Features
Local haunt, Casual

Named for the thin slip of water that separates Brooklyn from Governor's Island, over which dairy farmers used to sail to sell their milk in Manhattan markets, Buttermilk Channel serves exactly the type of comforting, homey food that its name conveys. Locals come for fried chicken and cheddar waffles, pan-roasted hanger steak with broccoli rabe, and pecan pie sundaes, not to mention the extremely reasonably priced three-course prix fixe offered on Monday nights. And it's a winner for brunch: The buttery, savory scrambles are simple but always satisfying, while the Bloody Marys are flavorful and potent enough to take the edge off your hangover.
