It used to be that the smoky, pillowy cornmeal cakes made by "the arepa lady," were only available late at night on weekends, when the beloved vendor would bring her streetcart out to Jackson Heights' Roosevelt Avenue and start grilling. Fortunately for those of us who aren't night owls, the Arepa Lady opened a storefront, where the arepas are served folded around cheese or meat or both, and drizzled with a quintet of different sauces.
