A haberdashery called Rubenstein's Men's Store was opened by a Russian immigrant at 102 St. Charles Avenue in 1924, and within 20 years it had expanded its premises as well as its offerings—going into women's clothes, too. The store was among the first to stock the ties made by a young up-and-coming designer by the name of Ralph Lauren, and the first American store to carry lines by Ermenegildo Zegna. It remains a stalwart department store for classic fashions, its love of tradition and high standards winning it numerous awards over the years.
