Sprouting up between rows of dive bars on lower Decatur street, this "proto-tiki" bar, from the team behind local craft cocktail vanguards Cure, was a brave move. The risk and originality have paid off, though, with Cure alumnus Nick Detrich introducing inventive tiki drinks to a crowd that didn't know they were ready for them. Rums and tropical fruits are blended with mastery, with tequila and mezcal adding to the choices for adventurous drinkers. The cocktail program is backed up by a robust food menu of "rustic colonial" dishes such as crab fritters and ropa vieja that have proved hugely popular.
