Off the beaten path

This 14th-century fortified city was founded by Turkic ruler Ghiyathu'd-Din Tughluq, who only ruled from 1321 until about 1326—after which the fort was abandoned. Much of the construction has since been taken over by vegetation, but its remarkably well-preserved ramparts and tombs make it a favorite with adventurous visitors and photographers.
