Strategic Hospitality co-founders Max and Benjamin Goldberg have conquered the market on cool and trendy bars in Nashville—and the 2016 opening of their newest spot, Bastion, is no different. Hidden among the 19th-century industrial facades of Houston Station, Bastion is more casual than the brand's other properties feels like a neighborhood hang with bleacher seating, exposed brick, lofted ceilings, and plenty of spaces for lounging. While the design is well thought out, the focus is on the ace drink menu from Matt Tocco and Michael McCollum: Try one of the many inventive cocktails such as the Kingston Negroni, a variant made with rum in lieu of the usual gin, the ever-changing Punch of the Day, or one of the quirky Boilermakers, like a mini Boulevardier shot paired with a Wiseacre IPA. There is a small restaurant attached too, with both an a la carte menu and a large-format, family-style meal for larger parties. The bar is unmarked so look for the garage door bearing a quote from The NeverEnding Story: "never give up and good luck will find you" (Bastion was the name of the 1984 cult flick's protagonist).
